TWAIN 32-BIT INSTALLATION ON 32-BIT WINDOWS PLATFORMS (Win32s/Win95/WinNT) If any 32-bit applications or data sources are used, the code must have been recompiled with the new TWAIN.H file. The application or data source installation program must check that all necessary files are installed, and that they are the most current revision. Check that the following files are being installed. Check their version. If the version you are trying to install is later, overwrite the existing file. - TWAIN.DLL installed in the \WINDOWS directory - TWAIN_32.DLL installed in the \WINDOWS directory - TWUNK_16.EXE installed in the \WINDOWS directory - TWUNK_32.EXE installed in the \WINDOWS directory If installing on a Win32s platform, then install MSVCRT20.DLL for Win32s in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory if a later version isn't already installed. Replace any version that has the same or earlier version number. There have been reports of MSVCRT20.DLL files that have the same version number but don't have the dynamic linking defect fixed. Install file sharing. This means a dialog box should come up recommending installation of SHARE.EXE or VSHARE.386. For Windows 3.1 systems, SHARE.EXE should be referenced in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Make certain it isn't a duplicate entry! For Windows for Workgroups 3.11 VSHARE.386 should be referenced in the SYSTEM.INI file. Check with Microsoft about the legal issues of shipping SHARE.EXE or VSHARE.386 with your program. If installing on a Windows 95 platform, then MSVCRT20.DLL for Windows 95 will have been shipped with the system. No other installation is necessary beyond the four TWAIN and TWUNK files. If installing on a Windows NT 3.x platform, then MSVCRT20.DLL for Windows NT must be installed in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory. Replace any version that has the same or earlier version number. There have been reports of MSVCRT20.DLL files that have the same version number but don't have the dynamic linking defect fixed. If installing on a Windows NT 4.0 platform, then MSVCRT20.DLL for Windows NT 4.0 will have been shipped with the system. No other installation is necessary beyond the four TWAIN and TWUNK files.
