Hi geomantis, sorry for the terse reply above, I hadn’t seen your other post when I wrote that.
TWAIN really doesn’t exist on Linux, and unless I’m mistaken, when TWAIN eventually *is* supported on Linux, it will sit on top of SANE drivers – so you’d still need a SANE driver for the 8350.
I checked the SANE website, and there is, as you say, nary a word about the 8350 or 8390 (It looks like the Scanjet 8350 and 8390 are basically the same beast.)
However, I see that this guy claims to support the 8390 with a SANE backend:

The implication is that these scanners are actually made by Avision, which would not be at all surprising.
