The concept of PDF/R sounds interesting because of the ‘lightweight’ nature of the code and being natively part of the TWAIN Direct specification but with all the benefits, I’m leery simply because it sounds too good to be true.
So, my question is, what are the drawbacks as far as backward compatibility or other compatibility with other standards such as PDF/A?
René RebeThere are no real drawbacks. As a true sub-set of regular PDF, PDF/R is just an industry standard agreed to standardize best practice and guarantee reliable access to the original image pixel raster data without getting lost of the complexity that PDF can be. PDF/R can be PDF/A and the resulting files are fully compatible and can be processed by any standard conforming PDF application and workflow!
