hello
We are experiencing a dissapointing result when scanning via TWAIN. We have fast multi functional devices and dedicated scanners. The quickest we can get the devices to scan via TWAIN is around 38spm (100dpi b+w).
I thought that using a USB2.0 local connection would improve the speed but there was no a great deal of difference between this and network TWAIN.
Anybody know of any tweaks to allow us to use our 60spm feeder in our devices, or have I found the limit of TWAIN scan speeds.
Cheers
Terry,
We have realized more than 120 ppm 300 dpi monochrome via TWAIN. This is related to
– speed of scanner
– multi threaded DS (scan next while transfer previuos)
– App implemenation (mem mode transfer, quick store or display)Best regards,
Thanks for the reply,
Can you expand on this please –
We have scanners that have a quoted scan speed of 65mono and 35colour.
multi threaded ds – scan next while transfer previous Is this a TWAIN command or is it down to the hardware? If it is TWAIN then how do we modify our TWAIN drivers?
App implemenation (mem mode transfer, quick store or display). What does this refer to? Are you referring to TWAIN or the TWAIN application.
Our devices are slow because they do not use their hard drive to buffer the scan job and pass each page to the application. This makes the scan next while transfer sound very interesting.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide (and to anybody else who may have some input)
Is there any TWAIN licensing that is speed related which may be affecting this issue?
I ask this question as I heard that there is a TWAIN license for <35spm and >35spm
Is this true?
Thanks
It would be great if this turned out to be just a licensing issue (although as a lot of effort has gone in to finding alternate solutions, it would also be quite frustrating!!)
If anyone can elaborate on the existence of a 2 stage license based around speeds, please post.
Thanks in advance.
Terry,
No it is not a licensing issue. It is a question of HW and SW design. The points I raised as multi threaded, buffered memmode and so on are valid for both driver and application. Also your hardware needs to have the right performance.
So your rated speed is 65 ppm and you can only achieve 38 ppm?
Can you use a different application?
Check for 3rd party TWAIN drivers which might be faster.
Is your PC state-of-the-art?
Blame the scanner vendor.
Best regards,
