I have an EPSON V600 that scans just fine using the scan software that comes with the scanner but when using another program that uses TWAIN, it just stopped working after 22-Dec-2021.
This is a Windows 10 machine, it was working fine on 22-Dec-2021 and some where after that the program that uses TWAIN just says “Preparing to scan, please wait…” but the scanner never does anything, I have to cancel it.
Could this be a Windows 10 update that broke this, even though I don’t see anything updated recently.

Just for clarification, is this issue occurring with the Epson Scan UI, or a 3rd party application trying to connect to the V600? Depending on where the issue is occurring, we would either like to follow up and diagnose the issue further, or we would recommend you contact the 3rd party software developer.
