    Help with image transfers

I have written a simple application that downloads images from a digital camera and names the images by job number plus a sequential number in order as they are downloaded. The user keeps a written log of what each picture is as they take them. unfortunately for me however is that even though when you view the pictures in the camera they are in the order taken when I download them to the computer the order is not the same. This causes havoc because now the description of the picture does not match the number of the picture. For instance the pictures are taken 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 but are downloaded in the order 4, 1, 5, 2, 6, 3 When I sort them with windows explorer by Date Picture Taken the order is correct but they are named wrong.

I am using VB6 and VintaSoftTwain ActiveX control. I am transferring the files in Disk File Mode, JPG image.

Does anyone now why this is happening or how I can correct the problem?

    Thanks

    Mel

If I have this project, I would do the following. Firstly, it is known that the download is not in sequence. From what I understand there is a time marker(in jpg files) that you can use to sort the images. My log file then would be to get the time sequence and use that as you sort mechanism. I would place my log data in a datatable with an indexed key which will automatically sort the data.

I hope I did not confuse you.

That is what I ended up doing. I used the meta file that contains the time the picture was taken and sorted by it, then renamed the files to put them in the correct order.

I just didn’t want to go to all this trouble if there was a simple fix I was overlooking.

    Thank you

    Mel
