These two new HP Scanjets seem to be HP’s first official products in the workgroup scanning/business scanning market, available since around March 2006. Here’s an HP product page, it doesn’t look like anything else I’m aware of:

If you have access to a ScanJet 8390 or 8350, my first request would be that you run Twister on it, and send me the report. Twister is a free download from my website:
http://www.dosadi.com/twister.htmAnd it is easy to run, and has a thorough uninstall.
Hi,
I have an scanjet 8350, and I have been trying to make it work in my SUSE 10 and have been imposible for me.
Can you give me a hand?
Hi geomantis – This isn’t the place to ask, TWAIN isn’t used on Linux: Try the SANE website: http://www.sane-project.org/
People there may want to know what software (application) you want to use.Hi geomantis, sorry for the terse reply above, I hadn’t seen your other post when I wrote that.
TWAIN really doesn’t exist on Linux, and unless I’m mistaken, when TWAIN eventually *is* supported on Linux, it will sit on top of SANE drivers – so you’d still need a SANE driver for the 8350.
I checked the SANE website, and there is, as you say, nary a word about the 8350 or 8390 (It looks like the Scanjet 8350 and 8390 are basically the same beast.)
However, I see that this guy claims to support the 8390 with a SANE backend:
http://www.exactcode.de/oss/avision/devices.html
The implication is that these scanners are actually made by Avision, which would not be at all surprising.
Ah – yes, here’s his original announcement:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/2006-November/017980.htmlTalk to him, maybe he can help.
My software (Dosadi) is all Windows-only.
