    Hi,

I would like to know if there is a .Net compliant twain component for Ricoh IS300e scanner where the output is on PDF format, ADF feeder/platen glass setting configurable from the code,
has zoom features and has saving capability to SQL Server. I have not found one having all these features.

    Thanks.

not that I know of. my only suggestion would be to get a .net library you can stand at a price you can accept and add the sql code. pdf in .net isn’t to tricky.

When I added pdf support my twain library for a client I used itextsharp (build 4.0.5 if I remember correctly) it took maybe 6 or 7 hours to add the code needed for basic pdf support.
And the sql code to add an image that I usually roll out isn’t complex.

Do you know if the Ricoh IS300e supports EnableDsUiOnly and CustomDsData?

The scanner supports the showing of its UI but it won’t be used in our application since its image output is not of PDF format.

I’m not sure you understand, (or maybe I didn’t your answer), EnableDsUiOnly is a capability, a feature that a twain device can support or not support. CustomDsData is similar, it’s a feaure that a twain device may or may not support. If your Ricoh supports both of these, you could save yourself a lot of time by traking advantage of them instead of trying to manipulate the device’s capabilities one by one – this is partialy in response to your question about setting the feed from code.

ah here it is, (http://www.dosadi.com/pub/reports/Ricoh%20IS300e.txt) yes it seems that your Ricoh supports what woyuld be needed. If you take advantage of those fetaures you could let the users setup ‘profiles’ of the settings that they would like, you save the profiles (it would just be text in most cases and easily streamed to xml, bin, etc) and later you can execute the ‘profile’ without (in most cases) and ui showing up.
Somehow it seems that many look thru the spec and come away with the feeling that they want to manipulate capabilites one by one when (depending on the device) there is a much easier way.

If you take a look at openTwain (http://www.codeplex.com/opentwain) and if it seems to provide basically what you need I’ll help you wire up the pdf support and you’d just be left with the sql code, which in most cases isn’t tricky, BOCTAOE.

What kind of project are you working on? (and feel free to tell me to leave your thread alone)

Thanks gabe, I’ll try to work this out first. The project is about documents and attachments where attachments source could be from a scanner.

    spike’s post:

does a pretty decent job of covering it are reference the doc ‘CapOrderForWeb.pdf’ for the order you set capabilities.

Why do I get “Unable to open default Twain device” on my second scan when I change feeder on/off? Do I need to reinitialize something?

    Thanks.

I dunno. but when I start guess at things like this, first I wonder if it is something wrong with the device that i’m using – because I’m what you call suspicious. So I test with a known device – a kodak i30 in simulation mode.
If the i30 in simulation mode reproduces the problem then I usually assume that it’s my code to fault (usually, no always, but really pretty close)

then if I think it is my code I start to look thru my log/output files and trace the triplets called and the twState changes that went along with them.

That said, what triplets did you call (and what parameters)?
What were the twRc and twCc returned for them?
Are you closing down the source completely between each scan?
