    Hi,
Following discussions of one of our subcontractant with Apple DTS, the support engineer informed us that PICTs are going away in the next major version of OS X (Leopard.) If this is true, that will leave a hole in the TWAIN specification on OS X. Once Apple removes support for PICTs in the OS, TWAIN Native Transfer will be unavailable until the TWAIN Working Group comes up with new semantics for this transfer mode on OS X.

Here’s a short extract of an email from DTS –

    Question:

Can you clarify your statement that “PICT support is going away with
QuickDraw on Leopard”? I know that QuickDraw is deprecated in Tiger,
but will QuickDraw actually be unavailable in Leopard?

    and the DTS engineer replied:

PICT support is going away from QuickDraw on Leopard — but QuickDraw will still be available in Leopard. Therefore, PICT support in the TWAIN native transfer mode will no longer be supported. Use JPEG or other formats instead.

Is the Twain working on new specs to accomodate with this ?

    Hi Patrick,
Did you get any updates on the PICT format. I am having a problem building my DS in 64-bit architecture as the QuickDraw has been dropped.
And as twain 1.9 insists on a PICHandle in Native mode – I was wondering what everyone else is doing. 🙁
