Hello,
I have the AV600G scanner. I am a software programer. I would like to write my software program so that it would activate the scanner. For this purpose I am using WIA (Windows Image Acquisition). I managed to get this to work with other scanners on the same computer with no problems. The problem is that WIA fails to recognize the existance of the AV600G scanner on the computer that has it installed. The PaperPort software program does manage to work with the AV600G scanner with no problems, so that it is installed correctly.
I installed both the Twain and the isis drivers but still WIA did not recognize the scanner.
Can you please guide me. Is there another driver that I must install in order to operate the AV600G with the use of WIA in my software program?
Does WIA conflict with twain or is there a twain version that I must be working with in order to get this to work?
Thanks greatly
Your guess is correct, you need another driver.
WIA applications does not see TWAIN or ISIS drivers.
Basically WIA drivers need to be developed from scratch and be certified by Microsoft.
Please contact your scanner vendor for WIA drivers. Recent Windows versions find them anyhow online if available.
For developers there is also an alternative available to create WIA drivers called WIA on TWAIN.
WIA on TWAIN allows manufacturers to extend their development investment in TWAIN to include Microsoft’s Windows Image Acquisition (WIA). A TWAIN data source can be used to generate a WIA driver and provides a simplified path to Microsoft’s Window Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) support. This technology enables TWAIN developers to deliver high quality WIA drivers along with high quality TWAIN drivers. The WIA on TWAIN development kit can be downloaded from the TWAIN web site at http://twain.org.

http://www.jse.deThanks greatly for your reply
I tried to approach the manufacturer of the scanner in question (Avision AV600G). At first they sent me a file with all sorts of Twain protocols and definitions. I told them this does not help me manage to operate their scanner via WIA. Their next reply was to recomend I seek advice from twain.
This is not such an old scanner. I think it was purchased just a couple of years ago or even less.
Is it a legitimate expectaion on my part to expect that the manufacturer for this scanner will provide this driver? Do you think most modern scanners will have such a WIA driver available?
I guess I may need to get another scanner and recommend that people stay away from Avision.

Being independend and working for several scanner vendors developing TWAIN and WIA drivers, I prefer to stay neutral and not comment that.
But I agree that it looks like you need to invest into a new scanner.
Check with the vendor that the devices is Windows HCK approved before you buy.
