Hi, is there any evidence of incompatibility between twain and winXP ?
Twain spec 1.9 in the note at the bottom of page 1-3 does not mention winXP.
I have been developing in Borlanc C++ (and currently in win32 assembly) but every sort of strange behaviours do happen to me.

my wild guess at the truely odd stuff you post is that you’re development environment is to blame. I’ve written the vast majority of my code in vs6 & vs 2005 and havent run across half of the issues you have. No idea if your uint is a different size or if it has to do with most twain structs defined as ‘Far’ but I strongly suspect that you language of choice is to blame.
And this isn’t to say that my compiler is better than yours – just that your compiler isn’t doing what you think or what I would except..
I think you’re right. I am now developing in assembly with MASM32. But I have been programming in C++ with the Borland compiler for a decade and never got into major troubles.

And then you came to twain, welcome to the group. Twain is odd. I blame the oddness I experience on the structures being defines with FAR, but then I don’t have half the c++ experience you seem to have.
What happens when you try your code with a microsoft compiler? Not doubting your experience in c++, but it is odd that we get different results.
.
I am not in possess of any MicroSoft compiler. But even if I had, I’d not used it because I need to integrate the resulting code into my old DLL (that I have also published for free at http://www.gentle.it/alvise/fflibdll.htm).
Yesterday I happened to download the AIIM MS61 API specification (used to implement ISIS applications) and it looks ways more simple than twain.
But I scraped my PC and couldn’t find any system DLL which impements that API, even after installing the ISIS driver of my scanner.
If I could find such a DLL I could give it a try.
Regards. Alvise.
