Hello,
Recently we have been observing that many users are having an issue regarding Windows migration. The issue is that TWAIN scanner does not work at all after migrating from legacy Windows (7/8/8.1/10) to new Windows (10) even though re-installing the TWAIN driver. Then the driver cannot communicate with a scanner.
According to our investigation, the issue looks likely to be caused by internal data inconsistency of TWAIN Data Source manager because it is resolved by deleting twain.log, twain001.mtx, twunk001.mtx and twunk002.mtx in Temp folder. However we are not sure why it works.
Let me ask a couple of questions:
1. Would it be no problem to delete these files for addressing the issue?
2. How can scanner vendor avoid/resolve this issue?Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Shortly after I installed an update through Windows for my Brother multi-function printer, I couldn’t scan documents from my wireless printer to my Toshiba laptop. I got an error message saying “the MFC-7860DW LAN cannot be found.” After trying the solutions given here and at other sites I came to this solution that worked fine for me: clearing in c:users”your own name”appdatalocaltemp the following files:twain.log, twain001.mtx, twunk001.mtx and twunk002.mtx.
HP case:
http://discussions.virtualdr.com/showthread.php?157021-Twain-ProblemI have an HP PSC 2110xi All-in-one running on Win XP Home. At unpredictable times the scanner will stop working with the message: “An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the scanning device is connected properly and try again”. The printer though, still works. I have installed the latest software from HP, checked the cable, and use Via Rev5 or later USB drivers. Restarting the computer will NOT restore scanner operation. Just by luck, what I found is that in the C:Documents&SettingsLindaJLocal SettingsTemp folder, there are 4 files relating to Twain. Twain001.mtx, Twunk001.mtx, Twunk002.mtx, Twain.log By deleting the Twain001.mtx file, scanning is restored, IMMEDIATELY.
Kind regards,
MikeSorry, my questions were not appropriate. Please let me change it.
1. Are these files (twain001.mtx, twunk001.mtx and twunk002.mtx) cash or something? If once they are deleted, can TWAIN driver automatically generate them with proper data?
2. What would be the possible cause of this issue?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
MikeJim FernbankI had a similar issue with a Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 scanner in Windows 10 64-bit. I installed the Windows 7 64-bit driver and software from the Canon website, which worked for many years.
Then during a scan, there was a blue screen crash. After this, when trying to scan, the error message was:
Unable to select TWAIN sourceI uninstalled the CanoScan Toolbox, then re-installed it. Then when trying to scan, the TWAIN source selection box was empty.
I opened the TWAIN.LOG file in the %TEMP% folder, and it contained this error:
atol FailedNormally, the Twain001.Mtx file in the %TEMP% folder contains a number as ASCII text, but at that time it did not.
I deleted the Twain001.Mtx file, and started a scan, then the TWAIN source selection box listed all the installed TWAIN scanners, and I could select the Canon scanner, and the scan completed successfully!
