Seems to me that you might want to contact Adobe about the issue you’re seeing.
Not having looked through the codeproject project, I’m not totally sure how much the fellow that posted it has implemented. For a more complete free solution you might want to take a look at Twain.Net.
Does it have a twain driver?
If you haven’t done so you should probably post this on the Twain.Net help forum. Sounds like they might not have exposed what you want.
You might want to look at a third party toolkit if you’re implementing in vb.Net. Try Twain.Net (it’s free — except for your time) http://code.google.com/p/twaindotnet/, Dynamsoft (TWG member): http://www.dynamsoft.com/, or Atalasoft (TWG board member, and full disclosure — my employer): https://www.atalasoft.com/ If you go to Atalasoft you’ll probably want to look for the DotTwain product.
There are several c# libraries that you could try. A free one is Twain.Net: http://code.google.com/p/twaindotnet/ For non-free there are many options. Two I’d recommend are TWAIN Working group members, Atalasoft https://www.atalasoft.com/ (full disclosure, I work there. search for WingScan, or DotTwain), and Dynamsoft: http://www.dynamsoft.com/.
Hope that helps.
…Well, you could take a look at DosadiLog for some ideas on what to keep track of: http://www.eztwain.com/eztwain4-diagnosis.htm
