The Fujitsu I have worked with (and heard about were) offered more support than you might think if you use customdsdata, especially if you don’t mind hacking the customdsdata string.
.
if you provided a little more information – what kind of application, what kind of volume, what capabilities you’re using,.. you might get a better response.
In my experience not all Hp drivers are bad I’ve had a lot of success with some of their scanners. In general I prefer Kodak scanners and personally think they make the best drivers or I should say their i30 – i65 devices – their newer devices I have no experience with. I’ve also recently had some real pleasant experiences with a fujitsu device. Canon I have no direct experience with but search the forum for Canon and you get a rather depressing experiences.

do any other sample projects crash? If you run the sample TWAIN2 application on SourceForge does it crash?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/twain-samples/
.
codeplex.com/opentwain tests for extended image info in vb.net id you’re looking for a sample.
.
Why do Vendors implement features in their TWAIN UI’s and not provide easy advanced TWAIN capability access to them?
asked another way, why don’t more of them support CustomDsData which is built specifically for this purpose. the answer to this is kinda sad. but not as sad as the general state of most twain drivers out there.
.
When you say “…the C++ code (also managed)” is this a Windows Forms project?
.
If you set the guiharness as your startup project, then set a breakpoint in cTwain.vb method UpdateCapabilities() you should see the sample get the values for a couple capabilities with the methods Update_DeviceOnline, Update_EnableDsUiOnly(), Update_AvailableXferMechs(), Update_AvailableImageFileFormats() and Update_CurrentImageFileFormat().
More specifically if you’re looking for the code that gathers a oneValue you’ll have to dig through the twCapability class, but I think you you set a breakpoint at UpdateCapabilities you’ll see how the code determines the values. Lemme know when/if you have more questions.
.
Sorry you’ve been having trouble and that it seems as if you’re alone. Have you had a look at codeplex.com/openTwain?
The definitions from that project are correct as are the Imports. If you’re having trouble in vb.net past that let me know..
this is one of the areas of the spec that I never really understood, at least from the windows environment. with the number of devices that support this capability vs the number of non-twain solutions to doing this why do this in twain? I have similar views on multi-image tiff conversions (or really almost any sort of image filetype conversions) – do them outside of twain and avoid the vendor specific issues, leave the twain interaction to getting a valid image of high enough quality in low enough time..
but then maybe I just never ‘got’ the value of these capabilities.Do you really need to do this in twain?
.
1. Can I implement twain driver which can interface with any twain supported scanner without their drivers being installed?
no
2. Is there any need of vendor supplied drivers to be installed?if so what is precisely needed?
you must have the vendors driver
.
http://www.codeplex.com/opentwain has a project in vb.net (ok it isn’t c# but it’s awfully close) that uses EnableDsUiOnly. If opentwain’s sample guiharness reproduces your probelm let me know
.
correct me if I’m wrong or if my assumption that Basic4ppc implies windows mobile but I do not believe that twain has been ported to windows mobile.

without seeing any code I’m going to guess that your messagepump isn’t quite right – unresponsive controls are allllmost always due to messagepumping problems.
if you post some code someone here can probably help – even if it is just a slimmed down version of the code that reproduces the problem.
